STYLE NOTES EDITION EIGHT

With Winter now upon us, we start spending less time outdoors, and more time in our homes. Bringing nature into our
indoor spaces can impact the way we feel and help to lift our mood. There are many ways to bring natural elements
into the home through the use ofcolour, texture, light and scent.
Our limited edition prints have been designed to capture the presence of the natural world,
revealing the beauty of the landscapes around us.

A colour palette of charcoal, light grey and biscuit were chosen to create
moody and dramatic scenesof stormy seas and skies.
The introduction of green and blue were used to depict inland pastures at dawn,
tying back to thepeaceful and calming countryside.

The beauty of working with oils paints is their flexibility and depth of colour. With naturally slow dry time
Tess was able to create these oil paintings by painting several thinner layers, diluted by linseed oil, to mark
out the shapes and colours as a base coat. Layers were then applied using denser paints to define and
give more depth to the landscapes.
Another benefit of painting with oil paints, is they lean themselves into blending and mixing,
which allows Tess to mix a moody colour pallet, with many tones across the shades.
Tess’ technique with these paintings was to leave visible brush strokes that offer the bare impression of form,
combined and in contrast  to smoothly blended areas, aiming to create a playful depiction of inland
landscapes and stormy seas and skies.
